I met Cynthia Weiss of Wellness Rehabilitation Inc. in 10/2020, about 1 or 2 weeks after a diagnosis of lumbago with sciatica on my right side after injuring myself at a gym and from chronic stress. I had started having severe, excruciating low back pain that left me unable to find a comfortable sitting or resting position; numbness or tingling, burning, shooting pains that radiated down my right leg; trouble sleeping, walking, standing or exercising; and with limited relief from the traditional methods of medications, heat/cold treatments and medicated patches. I was a wreck and was desperately looking for any kind of relief. I just couldn’t see myself going back to my original PT who had assisted with a knee and IT band injury. I wanted long term relief and home exercises that were going to strengthen my core, eliminate my pain and allow me to consistently exercise. I did a search to find a new PT and coincidentally found Cynthia was in my office building – a definite convenience for appointments! Cynthia made some quick assessments and began to give me exercises as well as treatments to help alleviate my back and leg pains. I met with her weekly then switched to biweekly as my condition improved. She gave me recommendations for everything from the right shoes to the right mattress, from pillows and rolls for my back and neck to a roller or tennis balls to loosen my muscles around my spine, and from balloons to improve my stress relief and breathing to advising me on how to set up my office or my car seat. I have daily stretches and alterations to typical exercises to use to strengthen my posture, abs, back muscles, lower my “zoom neck”, and make it easier for me to work with the children in my private psychotherapy practice. In addition to how she instructs me, reading her email newsletter has also given me insights and information. I have benefited with increased mobility, improved flexibility and alignment, decreased pain and discomfort, and better sleep and movement. I realized this weekend when working out in my garden and dancing in my kitchen to one of my favorite 80s dance hits as well as hearing from an orthopedist “keep doing what you are doing because it’s working” just how much PT has helped me to move more freely, confidently keep up my exercise routines, and function with confidence. I have also lost 35 lbs! Thanks Cynthia! I couldn’t have done it without you!

I had a right knee joint problems for roughly two months after running a half marathon. This kept me from running a successful long distance run without feeling pain. I tried waiting for the pain to go away but the pain persisted, which got annoying. After going through her rehabilitation program the pain went away and made me feel a lot better. Now I’m able to run longer distance without the annoying pain.

I was having a lot of back pain after going through a couple of months of working at home during the Covid-19 period. I really didn’t know what to do because it was dramatically impacting my ability to work. When Cynthia got involved (via videoconferencing) we spent a lot of time with exercises to strengthen the lower back but more surprising to me were the many adjustments to my work space. I had no idea what was possible. Now that I have a taller chair position with a lumbar roll, appropriately positioned monitors (2 instead of 1 now too), better positioned keyboard, a headset for my phone etc. (plus a lot of tips like taking interval breaks) I am able to work all day without pain. And again this was done through video conferencing – definitely recommend Cynthia for those struggling to be fully productive at home.

I have osteoporosis and wanted a safe exercise routine. So many people say they know what exercises are good for the disease but they really don’t. Cynthia has not only helped me learn what exercises to do, but she is even helping me with walking up and down the stairs and opening doors correctly, which isn’t as simple as it sounds. I also came in with a stiff neck and for the first time in years, I am pain-free. We are now working on my goal of playing tennis again, and I think I might make it. I highly recommend Cynthia to help you with whatever physical challenges you have.

I first met Cynthia years ago through a workshop through my local dance studio. The workshop was a blast; I appreciated how accessible Cynthia was as a teacher. Knowing that Cynthia has both extensive anatomical expertise and a background in dance, I knew that when my back and wrists started hurting this past semester – a full master’s program load and working at the office did a number for sure – there was no one better to address my pain concerns. As I remembered, Cynthia was gracious and kind at our appointments, ensuring total understanding of each move she taught me in our lessons. With steady repetition, I felt an improvement in my posture and wrists within just a couple of days. Cynthia has a knack for breaking down the rationale for each move and this helps immensely in understanding why each move is prescribed. I had to cut our sessions short this time, but I can say that Cynthia will always be first on my list for when I need a physical therapist!

I recently had spinal fusion surgery after two years of debilitating lower back pain due to a serious disk herniation, and misaligned vertebra. During these two years my range of activity was severely constrained – it was nearly impossible to exercise, do social things, even shop for groceries or take a leisurely/extended walk. Prior to my surgery, I’d tried many treatment approaches which turned out unhelpful (physical therapy, osteopathic manipulations, pilates, massage, acupuncture, epidural cortisone injections and more). After surgery I knew that physical rehabilitation would be essential for getting back to full activities, but did not wish to go back to the run of the mill physical therapy regimen where therapists see me for 15 minutes, do not have time to carefully assess my condition, and hand me print-outs with tiny images of generic exercises. I sought a more deliberate, well informed and personally tailored mode of rehabilitation. Luckily, through referrals from trusted medical professionals, I found Wellness Rehabilitation. From the first session with Cynthia Weiss I realized that she offered a different and superior approach. We work on core muscle control to protect the spine and we examine thoroughly my posture in daily functions (walking, lifting, reaching, sitting and lying down). Cynthia’s work also includes effective hands-on techniques for relieving trigger points pain and post-surgical muscle spasms, and she is very attentive to any information I provide about my body’s responses. The one-on-one, full hour sessions are delightful and very helpful. Cynthia helps me understand my body’s mechanics, and she gives me insightful tips for homework exercises to enhance the use of core muscles while protecting the back from unnecessary strain. It is worth mentioning that I’ve been an avid dancer prior to my lower back issues so Cynthia’s involvement in this type of activity is an extra bonus for me. Currently, two months after surgery, I am pain-free, am able to take long walks in the parks, shop, do household chores, and engage socially. I would say to anyone reading this that you are in good hands with Cynthia, and things are likely to improve. Be diligent about the homework exercises and remain optimistic.

Cynthia Weiss has been my physical therapist since 1993. I have a chronic, intermittent pain syndrome in my feet and since then have been diagnosed with osteopenia and scoliosis. Cynthia has helped me through my flare-ups to stay mobile and work through the pain to keep my body functional. She gives me hands-on manipulation of my joints and soft tissue. She uses release techniques to treat my symptoms. We also use therapeutic Pilates on mat and equipment. For all the years I have known Cynthia, she has been a skilled professional. She takes continuing education courses and gets certified in new techniques. She is always looking for ways to enhance her knowledge of the latest techniques in her profession. Cynthia’s greatest asset is her compassion and empathy in addition to her level of professionalism. She is flexible with scheduling and always has the ability to change a program or technique to suit a patient’s symptoms. I have no reluctance when I recommend her to anyone I know who needs treatment. I can only give her my highest praise!

Ballroom dancing is an activity I started as an adult and enjoyed immensely. Sadly, lingering feet injuries halted my participation in dance. I thought my feet would heal naturally and quickly, but that was not the case. Overtime my activity level decreased because of pain. My muscles atrophied and I became more and more de-conditioned. My first session with Cynthia was amazing and gave me hope. She is a master at musculoskeletal alignment. From the moment I shook her hand she began her assessment- using her eyes and hands to identify my issues. She is a natural teacher and strong communicator who takes time to help clients understand all factors at play. I now understand that the root of my injury wasn’t my feet at all. Due to weakness and imbalances in the core, I placed forces on my feet that overtime caused my injuries. I’ve experienced many lightbulb moments about my body and how it works. The rehabilitation process has allowed me to start over and build a body that I can depend on. I’m looking forward to returning to dance, new and improved. I sing Cynthia’s praise to family and friends who compliment my posture and more energetic appearance. If you long to return to the activity that you love, allow Cynthia to guide you to the strong and efficient body you deserve.

In the recovery period of a traumatic fall that produced a broken arm and sacrum, I also received a diagnosis of osteopenia. Unable to exercise for 9 months, then deflated about how to regain my fitness activities, I did nothing. Until working with Cynthia. Now, I am more mindful & aware of my movements and posture. I finally feel like a have a promising path to long term health. Cynthia Weiss is a gem. I arrived at my first appointment thinking that I had a good handle on my health and physical status. In a non-judgmental setting, Cynthia has guided me to wear better shoes, drive hours in comfort, walk, yes, walk better and given me the chance to begin reclaiming an out-of-shape physique. I encourage you to call Cynthia and begin your journey to your better self. Thanks Cynthia!!
